FAQs

Will I need to redecorate after my Acorn Stairlift is installed?

As the Acorn Stairlift is installed onto the staircase and not the wall, it means that there is minimal disruption to you or the interior of your home. There are also no unappealing holes and marks to cover up or repair.

You can count on Acorn to provide you with stairlift engineers who are committed to installing your stairlift, making sure it works and that you are 100% comfortable before leaving your home exactly as they found it.

I have a disability. Will an Acorn Stairlift be suitable for me?

Whilst Acorn design all their stairlifts with the aim to ease the difficulties that people with mobility issues might have with climbing or descending stairs, it is always best to talk through your specific requirements with an advisor so that they can discuss your particular requirements and explain all of the options that are available to you.

I have problems with my knees; can I still use an Acorn Stairlift?

What is the maximum weight that an Acorn Stairlift will carry?

Depending on which stairlift you are interested in, the maximum weight will vary. For instance, the Acorn Superglide Stairlift’s maximum user weight is 20 stone (280 lbs.). However, should you require an option that is suitable for larger users, then Acorn also have a stairlift option that is suitable for those weighing up to a maximum of 25 stone (350 lbs.).

Should you wish to discuss the maximum weight of any of Acorn’s stairlifts in more detail, please get in touch.

What happens if there is a power failure, will I be stranded?

Acorn Stairlifts operate using DC power, battery power, which means that even in the event of a mains power cut, the stairlift will continue to operate and make sure that you get to the top or bottom of the stairs safely and smoothly. Acorn actually pioneered the use of DC technology in the stairlift market, a step which all other manufacturers have since followed, which goes to show just how good this technology really is.

Battery life is dependent on a number of things, such as the length and angle of the staircase, as well as the weight of the user. However, typically a fully charged stairlift battery, on an average staircase, will last 15-20 return trips.

If I arrange for a survey, will I get the hard sell?

In short, no, not at all.

When the Acorn Stairlift surveyor conducts the survey, it is entirely free of any obligation and you should never feel under any pressure to buy. The surveyor is there to answer any of your questions and ensure that in the case you do decide to go ahead with a stairlift purchase, that all your requirements are noted and met.

Once the surveyor has measured up and taken note of all your requirements, you will be given your own specific quote for free and then it is up to you whether you decide to buy or not.

Please contact us in the event you are interested in having your home measured up for a stairlift or to find out more about Acorn Stairlifts in general.

How long does it take to install an Acorn Stairlift?

Somewhat surprisingly, installing an Acorn Stairlift hardly takes any time at all. This is because of the work that the surveyor did at your initial appointment. Acorn Stairlifts are manufactured to fit the exact dimensions that were taken by the surveyor, so the installation process usually doesn’t take any longer than an hour usually.

If you have ordered a curved stairlift then it may take slightly longer than an hour, however, disruption to your daily schedule is most definitely kept to a minimum and the installers will ensure that everything is working and that you are happy about how everything works, before leaving you to try out your new stairlift for the first time.

You will be given a free, fixed price quote on the day that your stairlift surveyor comes to your house and takes the measurements, so you will be able to discuss all of your requirements, as well as your budget at the time of the appointment in order to make sure that nothing comes as a shock to you.

How much does a stairlift cost to run?

Due to the fact that Acorn Stairlifts operate on DC power (rechargeable batteries), it means that the running cost is actually rather low and the batteries last for an extremely reasonable amount of time, due to the fact they are not wasting any power when the stairlift is not being used.
